Totally Fitness gets the Belfast Giants to help to tackle children’s obesity
A Belfast fitness equipment retailer has embarked on a mission to help stamp out obesity in children in the North of Ireland with a leading Ice Hockey team.
In conjunction with the Belfast Giants ‘Adopt a School Programme’, Totally Fitness, with a large showroom in King Street, Belfast, is keen to help promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle to school children throughout the City of Belfast.
Earlier this week, Belfast Giants Captain George Awada went to Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary School in Twinbrook, which is one of Totally Fitness’s adopted schools, to speak with pupils on the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle by taking care of their bodies through good nutrition and regular exercise.
The aim of the day was to educate primary school children on the importance of looking after themselves from an early age, as well as giving them the opportunity to meet one of their sporting heroes in a fun and laid back environment.
On the day, Totally Fitness also provided each child with a travel gym, consisting of a skipping rope, handgrips and hand weights in order to give them a head start on beginning their fitness regime. In addition, around 60-children will be treated to a night at a Giants game to see their home team in action.
Stephen Lynch, Manager of the Totally Fitness showroom, was very keen to get involved with the programme as he feels it is hugely important to nip the problem of childhood obesity in the bud before it gets out of hand.
He said: “With the growing rate of childhood obesity levels here, it’s important that something is done now to help educate children on the importance of diet and exercise.
“With obesity leading to diseases such as diabetes, osteoporosis and heart disease and cancer in later life, it’s important that something is done before it puts too much strain on the health service.”
Totally Fitness also has a number of showrooms in England including a large concession in Harrod’s. With its premium new showroom situated in the King Street area of Belfast, Totally Fitness has everything you could want in regard to fitness equipment and accessories as well as sports supplements. There are even assistants on hand deliver both home and commercial equipment to areas both North and South of the border.
Totally Fitness is proud to be one of the leading fitness retailers in the UK and Ireland and is keen to encourage everyone, regardless of their age, to get active in 2008.
The Belfast Giants ‘Adopt a School Campaign’ will be visiting Totally Fitness’s other adopted school, Inchmarlo Primary School on February 27. For more information, log onto www.totallyfitness.co.uk or call 02890 230 330. |
