Tommy Joyce, winner of a Commonwealth Games bronze medal, is planning to run a marathon on a treadmill to raise money to buy a defibrillator.

His contribution will go towards the larger fundraising effort by the Mexborough Market stallholders, reports the South Yorkshire Times.

Joyce will be trying to raise £800 on the machine to help purchase one of the portable machines which it is hoped will help those who have heart attacks in the town centre.

He will run the marathon outside the Tesco on Mexborough High Street on October 25th, beginning his effort at 10:00 BST.

The defibrillator will cost £1,600 in total but the South Yorkshire Ambulance Service has announced that it will pay for half of the cost.

Experts at Essortment.com advise those using a treadmill to get fit to increase the speed they run at gradually and to make sure that they dress appropriately for the workout.
