Areas of Scotland have been found to have the fewest gyms, according to a recent study by leisure market analysts CACI.
Glasgow, Dumfries and Dundee were found to be among the areas with the fewest gyms per head of population, reports Scotland on Sunday.
The only area in the top three outside of Scotland was west London, which took the top spot, with over 10,000 potential users for each facility in the region.
Simon Power, a managing consultant for CACI, commented: "Scots want to be fit and the recent success of Team GB in the Olympics means that fitness fever seems set to continue."
However, he added that the lack of proper facilities meant that some clubs could be forced to turn keep-fit enthusiasts away.
Those looking to avoid the potential problems of finding gym membership may wish to purchase the basics for a home gym setup, such as dumbbells and a treadmill.
According to isnare.com, setting up an exercise area at home could be a cheaper option once the outlay for the initial equipment has been made.
