Tesco is launching a fundraising event across 32 counties to raise money for the Playing for Life charity.

Two treadmills will be placed in one store in each county, with each branch bringing together a team of relay runners who will aim to achieve 300 kilometres each over three days.

Each machine is linked up to a central computer and the combined progress of the runners will be visible to the runners.

Overall the distance run by the fundraisers will be the equivalent of running from Dublin to Addis Adaba in Ethiopia.

The total distance travelled will be 9,500 km, and as each team is hoping to raise £100 for each kilometre, the projected money raised could be approaching £1 million.

Keep-fit enthusiasts looking to increase the intensity of their treadmill regimes may wish to consider increasing the incline of their workouts, according to experts at Treadmill Talk.

This move could boost strength and endurance and can make a workout of this sort more closely replicate running outside.
