Two different types of yoga have been compared and contrasted for their relative health benefits.

In an article in the Guardian, it was noted that Astanga and Iyengar yoga have a range of different benefits, with each offering different things to the other.

Astanga yoga is more energetic. It offers a "taut, strong physique, especially in the arms", whereas Iyengar yoga sees poses be held for much longer, meaning that overall strength and stamina levels are improved, the paper notes.

Both forms of yoga will leave those who practice the exercise feeling calm and energised, and strength will improve over time, it is claimed.

Iyengar yoga offers "great flexibility" and the use of different yoga accessories such as belts and wooden blocks can help people to get deeper into their stretches, the newspaper claims.

Last week, it was announced that a new yoga DVD is to be released, with the tool offering advice to users over how best to tackle any problems with their bodies they are facing, Arizona Republic claims.
